Suggested Teammates

  • Xingqiu is the only character that can keep up with Hu-Tao's Pyro elemental application with his own crazy Hydro application, his defensive abilities come in very handy restraining Hu-Tao's self destructive tendencies.

  • Zhongli's status as strongest shielder in the game is very useful for a "Berserker" type character like Hu-Tao. His damage boosting capabilities will push Hu-Tao to the next level.
Consider supporting with the Archaic Petra set for even more Pyro power!.

  • Xiangling on top of having excellent multipliers on both her elemental skill and burst is an underrated support, she offers Pyro resistance shred, an attack boosting chilli and at c6, a Pyro damage boosting elemental burst. The pyro resonace is just the cherry on top!.

  • Hu-Tao like every other offensive Pyro character benefits a lot from the melt reaction, Ganyu's no stops, 100% uptime, elemental burst will keep the opponents chilled and ready to be melted by Ganyu's overpowered Pyro skills.

  • Kaeya is another Cryo support option for Ganyu, his elemental burst has excellent Cryo application which Ganyu can make great use of, his self sufficient nature means he can control the battlefield while Hu-Tao regains her cooldowns, and his good energy particle generation will keep your whole team ready to go!.

  • Diona is a more defensively oriented Cryo partner of Hu-Tao, her weaker Cryo application can't keep up with Hu-Tao's own Pyro application. That doesn't mean she's inferior to the most offensive options, she brings her own set of strenghts to your party, on one hand her very strong shield will allow Hu-Tao to stay at low health for longer and deal the maximum ammount of damage, on the other hand her stamina consumption reduction will allow low constellation Hu-Taos to spam charged attacks more effectively.

  • Bennett usually a top tier option for supporting any character, this time takes a backseat with Hu-Tao. Bennett offers some anti synergy with his healing for a character that wants to be at 50% or less max health at all times. Still his strenghts are able to shine through this anti synergy, specially with how much attack he can add to the party.
Consider using another spear when Bennett is on your team, Primordial Jade Winged-Spear is a great option in this regard.

  • Sucrose is an excellent option for a teamate for Hu-Tao. She can CC, apply Pyro resistance shred, and boost Hu-Tao's elemental mastery rating.
Without Sucrose in the party you won't be able to reach Hu-Tao's maximum damage ceiling.

  • Chongyun has very bad Cryo application when paired with Hu-Tao given that it's impossible to override her own Pyro infusion, still Chongyun can offer some mild Cryo appliation while offering some very important cooldown reduction, which will allow your Hu-Tao to gain her maximum power back faster than usual, improving your overall DPS.

  • Mona is usually the star in burst oriented team compositions, Hu-Tao's elemental burst has the potential to be the strongest in the game. Mona will make sure that it hits as hard as possible while Hu-Tao herself can help Mona's own burst reach it's maximum potential.

Summary

"Hu as in "Who put me in this coffin?" and Tao as in "I can't geT OUt!" Hehe... No, not funny?"

Pros:

  • Very strong single target damage.
  • Very high multipliers on her elemental burst making it a great clean-up tool too.
  • Guaranted fast damage to take down priority targets.

Cons:

  • Can be worn out without careful play.
  • Needs a very specific team comp to shine reducing her versatility.

Building tips:

  • Hu Tao makes decent use of theCrimson Witch of Flames x4 set, other options are Retracing Bolide x4 with shield support and Shimenawa's Reminiscence x4 with heal support.
  • Hu Tao is an especial csase between main DPS characters. While she makes use of the classic ATK and Crit stats, she can also make good use of the Elemental Mastery and HP stats meaning that she has more scaling options available than other characters.
  • Hu Tao's best weapon is the Staff of Homa, besides Homa she can make use of any weapon which possesses any of the substats she wants, of course, shaping her build around it. In a pinch she can even make use of the 3-star weapon White Tassel to decent effect.

Gameplay tips:

  • Try to keep your HP below 50% this is especially important if you have her equipped with the Staff of Homa.
  • Learning to cancel the ending animation of her Charged Attack will improve your DPS by a big margin:
    • for C0 havers jump canceling ( jumping right after your hit has registered ) will be the best option
    • for higher constellations you can dash cancel easily with the extra stamina you'll have at your disposition
  • Don't use your Elemental Burst unless you are certain you need the healing or that you need it to finish the enemy off as you will lose a lot of your damage by being over 50% of your health.

stellations power:

  1. C1 while not necessary is a huge QoL improvement and it's a constellation you should aim for if you are a hardcore Hu Tao enjoyer.
  2. More Blood Blossom damage. Not your main source of DPS.
  3. This constellation's mileage depends on how much max HP your HuTao has. at the high end ( 50.000 HP Hu Tao ) it can signify that you get 500 extra attack which is nothing to scoff at.
  4. With this constellation, your Hu Tao can effortlessly offer a total of 24% Crit Rate to the whole party excluding herself. A very powerful underrated effect.
  5. A stronger burst which will melt everything but is not our main source of damage.
  6. C6 is one of the strongest constellations in the game, but only for 10 seconds every 60 seconds. Unusable and unfun for most people, but incredibly strong and invaluable in speedrunning.

Elemental skill

Guide to Afterlife

Hu Tao consumes a part of her HP, knocking nearby enemies back and entering the Paramita Papilio State.
Paramita Papilio State:
Increases Hu Tao's ATK based on her Max HP at the time of entering this state. ATK Bonus gained this way cannot exceed 400% of Hu Tao's Base ATK. Hu Tao's attack DMG is converted to Pyro DMG, which cannot be overridden by any other elemental infusion.
Increases Hu Tao's resistance to interruption.
Paramita Papilio ends when its duration is over, or when Hu Tao has left the battlefield or fallen.
In the Paramita Papilio state, Hu Tao's Charged Attacks apply the Blood Blossom effect to enemies it hits.
Blood Blossom Effect:
Enemies affected by Blood Blossom will take Pyro DMG every 4s.
This DMG is considered Elemental Skill DMG.
Each enemy can be affected by only one Blood Blossom effect at a time, and its duration may only be refreshed by Hu Tao herself.

Elemental Burst

Spirit Soother

Hu Tao commands a blazing spirit to deal Pyro DMG in a large AoE. Upon striking the enemy, regenerates a percentage of Hu Tao's Max HP. This effect can be triggered up to 5 times based on the number of enemies hit.
If Hu Tao's HP is below or equal to 50% when the enemy is hit, both the DMG and HP Regeneration are increased.
